Anyone who has a child with long hair knows how fun it is to play with it, get creative and come up with all sorts of hairstyles. But let's be honest, growing it out is a messy struggle. You could cut their fringe and forget about hair in the face, but for those who don't want to do it, the transition between short and long hair could be quite frustrating.
As always, I would like to push some ideas around and show you how we got through that stage with my daughter, whose hair has never been cut even once.
At first, when their hair is not long enough to be gathered but is long enough to get in their eyes, you probably just want to have it out of the way.
A little clip or a hair band is going to do the job.
You will absolutely have to re-do it every once in a while, though. Just because kids are very active.
Then, as their hair gets longer, you will be able to gather it in a little bun or a ponytail near their face.
This was my favourite stage just because kids look so mischevious and funny with those tiny ponytails poking out.
Again, at this point, you are just trying to get the hair out of their face. No one cares that it looks a bit silly.
Soon you'll be able to move the tails and buns further back, gathering the back hair as well as the front. This won't look nearly as fun as it used to, but what can we do? Kids grow.
To be honest, that time was a bit painful, because this instantly makes them look a bit more grown-up.
Then if you wait just a tiny bit more, you'll be able to move them even lower by securing the front pieces with a hair band or a little clip.
Of course, braids are by far the most secure hairstyle that can withstand even toddler's energy. This was my first attempt on braiding my daughter's short hair.
Since I couldn't do full plats, I settled at braiding just the most troublesome front bit.
This was quite successful and as the time passed I was finally able to braid it all the way down.
Anyways, this is it for today's post. If you are interested in more grown-up and complex hairstyles for children, stay tuned because I will be covering that in future posts.
As always, have a great day.
