I think my love for braids is pretty evident. They look amazing and also secure your (or your little one's) hair for a long time. And the best part is - you can get super creative and make them as complex as you want.
Today I wanted to give you some ideas of little twists on hairstyles that are very simple but have this little extra to catch the eye.
Of course, knowing how to do a simple braid is essential. Knowing the Dutch one is highly encouraged as it would give you more options. Also, being able to 'guide' the braid in a curved manner will be needed for some of those, but getting a hang of it is a 5-minute thing. Other than that you'll only need your creativity and enthusiasm.
4 braids.
It's secure, it draws attention and it's ridiculously simple. All you need to do is divide the hair into as many sections as you like and braid. I personally like it more with the Dutch braid, but you can do French or even fish-tail if you please.
For older kids with long hair, you can pull on the pieces a little to make it bigger. I would have given it a try, but my daughter's hair is still very layered and taking braids apart just wouldn't work as well.
3 that merge into 1.
Honestly, you can make it 'as-many-as-you-want merge into 1', but three are just easier to handle. When they meet at the back you could make a big ponytail, braid it down and cut off the elastic or you can start braiding them between each other and later or cut elastics of each one (which is what I did). It allowed me to incorporate the bottom pieces into the braid as well. Although you could probably braid all three of them down and only then make them into one.
Another thing you can do is change the braiding style as you go. Either make the three Dutch/French and the big one French/Dutch or even alternate the little ones.
Seriously, the possibilities are endless.
Snake.
In the previous hairstyle post, I've already shown something similar. It was an 'O or C shaped' braid. This is taking it a bit further.
You can make it as twisty and complex as you like. And it does an excellent job at holding those shorter front pieces out of the way.
Heart.
This is the first one on this list that takes a bit of practice and time, but after a few tries, it's quite easy.
Normally, I just leave the two braids as they are at the bottom.
But you can join them into a ponytail.
Or take it a step further and braid it down.
This always draws attention and looks much harder than it actually is.
Beehive braid.
Speaking of things that look complicated.
This is the braid of all braids. It's absolutely stunning and surprisingly easy to assemble. You just start at the top of the head, make a little circle and keep braiding all the way around. The one thing to know is that you only add pieces to the bottom strand and not the top one. This allows the braid to kind of stand on the side. If you add pieces to it from both sides you'll get a different result.
The only downside is that it only works on long hair. My daughter's hair is still not long enough for supporting this hairstyle and it falls apart within 5 minutes.
Here you can see all the little hairs poking out of it.
That's all I've got for you so far. If I stumble upon other awesome hairstyles, I'll be sure to let you know.
